SIM Cards Not Linked With AADHAAR Gets Deactivated.

The government is planning to deactivate SIM cards if it is not linked to Aadhaar. SIM cards will be deactivated after February 2018.

Aadhaar and mobile linkage is being done as per the orders of Supreme Court.

However, the biometrics will not be stored by mobile operators. They will only collect the data and send it to UIDAI servers in encrypted form.

What Is AADHAAR:

Aadhaar is a 12 digit unique-identity number issued to all Indian residents based on their biometric and demographic data.

The data is collected by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), a statutory authority established on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, under the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, benefits and services) Act, 2016.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) (also termed as Aadhaar)is a statutory authority established on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, under the provisions of the Aadhaar Act 2016.
